Guided tour - Active New Zealand, A Hobbit’s Journey with National Geographic
Find your inner hobbit on a Lord of the Rings Adventure!
Immerse yourself in New Zealand, "The Land of the Long White Cloud," through its stunning landscapes and vibrant multicultural heritage. From North to South, this tour covers it all.
Start with a full day tour on set at Hobbiton, as seen in the Hobbit Trilogy and Lord of the Rings movies. Enjoy a sumptuous feast and tasty ale at the Green Dragon Inn and explore the 44 hobbit holes, including Bilbo’s house, Bad End.
Trek Auckland by foot before catching a ferry to taste wine on the beautiful Waiheke Island, a haven of world-class vineyards and idyllic beaches.
Explore lights in the dark at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves before arriving at Rotorua. Taste a traditional hangi lunch at the Maori-owned Kohutapu Lodge while learning about Maori culture. Take a walk through 800-year-old podocarp trees in the Whirinaki Rainforest, learn about medicinal plants, and soak in the hot springs.
On the South Island, hike the mountainous lands surrounding Christchurch, where scenes of Rohan were filmed, then board the TranzAlpine train, one of the world’s most scenic rail routes, for a breathtaking journey through plains, forests and misty mountains before arriving at the Franz Josef Glacier. Take a helipcopter ride to hike the jagged ice, or hike along the riverbed at the glacier’s retreat. Either route provides sweeping views of a remarkable terrain.
Set out to Lake Matheson then discover the glacially carved wilderness of Fiordland National Park on a cruise. Glide past shimmering waterfalls and towering cliffs as you watch for bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, and little blue penguins.
We’ll have 2 days to explore the land of Isengard, near Queenstown, known as an adventure capital of the world. Choose from a variety of options like bungee jumping, steamboat cruises, cable car rides to mountain peaks, thrilling jet boat rides, and relaxing escapes to more New Zealand vineyards.
The road goes ever on and on, so let’s take an adventure!
