Our day is free. An optional tour will be available for exploring unique faith-sites in Cairo including a Jewish Temple, Muslim Mosque, Coptic Church and the Hanging Church. This evening we will gather with traveling companions for a welcome dinner at the hotel. (B, D)
DAY 4 Sunday, April 4: Cairo
Guided sightseeing in and around Africa’s largest metropolis starts at the most recognized site in the world—the Great Pyramids of Giza. Take a close-up look at the mythical Sphinx and the daunting pyramids—built 2600 BC with an original height of 496 feet. Then onto the Egyptian Museum for an exciting first encounter with the splendor of three millennia of Egyptian civilization, including Tutankhamun’s fabulous treasures.  (B)
DAY 5 Monday, April 5: Cairo-Luxor-Embarkation
Board the flight to Luxor and embark our cruise ship to enjoy lunch. Our guided sightseeing features visits to the temples of Karnak and Luxor, ancient cities whose combined populations once topped one million. Walk among the colossal pillars and along the Avenue of the Sphinxes for a treasurer experience. (B, L, D)
DAY 6 Tuesday April 6: Cruising Luxor - Edfu
This morning, the optional guided sightseeing focuses on the Valley of Kings & Queens on the West Bank of the Nile, where generations of pharaohs and nobles were buried in great splendor in crypts cut into the cliffs. Sixty-two royal tombs have been uncovered so far, including the tomb of Tutankhamun discovered in 1922. Visit Deir El-Bahri, Queen Hatshepsut’s monumental rock temple, before returning to your ship where a Captain’s welcome cocktail party awaits you. Sail to Edfu. (B, L, D)
DAY 7 Wednesday, April 7: Cruising Edfu - Kom Ombo - Aswan
In Edfu, visit the Temple of Horus with its menacing black stone statue of the falcon god. Built in the time of Cleopatra about 2,000 years ago, it is recent by Egyptian standards and beautifully preserved. Have lunch on board and continue your leisurely cruise down Egypt’s river of destiny. Dock at Kom Ombo for a short walk to visit its bluff-top Temple dedicated to the crocodile and falcon gods. You can haggle for bargains in the local market. This evening, enjoy a Galabeya (traditional Egyptian gown) party on board. (B, L, D)
DAY 8 Thursday, April 8: Cruising Aswan
An optional excursion to stunning Abu Simbel is available where you can step thousands of years back in time on this exciting visit to the twin rock temples or Abu Simbel, one of Egypt’s most cherished ancient wonders. Later this afternoon we sail on a felucca (traditional wooden sail boat) around Kitchener’s Island and the Mausoleum of Aga Khan. Onboard, a Nubian Folklore Show is the perfect way to celebrate your Nile Cruise. (B, L, D)
DAY 9 Friday, April 9: Disembarkation - Aswan
We will begin disembarkation in Aswan. Enjoy a day at leisure, or explore more on an optional excursion to the High Dam, the Philae Temple, and the Unfinished Obelisk. Learn how in the early 1970s, after the inauguration of the Aswan High Dam, raging floods risked the submersion of Philae. The rescue of these Nubian monuments is thanks to the joint effort between the Egyptian government and UNESCO, who dismantled the structures into 40,000 blocks and transferred them brick by brick to higher ground. Then free time to relax and overnight  in a lovely hotel on  elephantine island. (B)
DAY 10 Saturday, April 10: Aswan - Cairo
Board our flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, perhaps join an optional tour of Memphis & Sakkara where we pack thousands of years of history into a single day. This evening, a farewell dinner awaits at our hotel. (B, D)
DAY 11 Sunday, April 11 & 12: Cairo - Home
Following breakfast this morning, we are free for the day to relax or do some exploring on your own. Late tonight we will transfer to the airport for our flight home that will depart in the early morning hours of the 12th with new friends and wonderful memories. (B)
