Wednesday, October 19: Arrive in NYC

Welcome to “the Big Apple”. We will transfer to our Times Square hotel. Your afternoon and evening are at your leisure.  Perhaps take a walk and explore Times Square or catch a Broadway show!

Thursday, October 20: Downtown Manhattan

So much to see today! Our full-day guided tour starts with a ferry ride to Ellis Island to Statue of Liberty. Learn about the Statue of Liberty with great harbor views and free time to explore the Museum of Ellis Island.  Then we head to downtown Manhattan for Battery Park for lunch on our own in the Winter Garden. Finally we will explore Midtown Manhattan from Central Park to Strawberry Field, a landscaped section dedicated to John Lennon. Late afternoon and evening at leisure. (B)

Friday, October 21: The Villages

Another full-day of famous sites. Our morning has a meaningful tour of the 9-11 Museum and Memorial and Reflecting Pools. We will ride to the top of the One World Observatory for amazing NYC views. Then onto St Paul’s Chapel, the church that George Washington attended, it remained unharmed after the 9-11 attack and became the place of rest and refuge for recovery workers. We’ll walk to the bronze Fireman’s memorial wall, have an opportunity to visit Trinity Church, walk on Wall Street and explore Downtown towards the Seaport District then drive back through Chinatown and SOHO. Late afternoon and evening at leisure – perhaps see a Broadway show, a special restaurant or NYC dining experience of the famous food trucks. (B)

Saturday, October 22:  Free Day and Dinner Cruise

Today you relax and enjoy the day on your own – or take the optional half-day tour (details below) . Tonight we are celebrating our NYC Getaway with a festive evening Dinner Cruise Bateaux New York on an elegant boat of glass walls and ceiling to give unobstructed skyline views of Manhattan, New York Harbor, on the Hudson River and the East River while enjoying a 3-course sit-down gourmet dinner and live band.  (B, D)

Saturday’s Optional half-day tour

On this tour we will start in the Bronxthe birthplace of hip-hop and the home of the New York Yankees.  We will take a “behind the scenes” visit of the iconic Yankee Stadium. Then our driving tour  take us to the Upper East Side including the world-famous Harlem, the streets where Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and other cutting edge Harlem Renaissance players put American music on the world map. Also included is Little Italy, where Italian immigrants settled in the late 1800s and where their heritage remains alive and strong.

Sunday, October 23: Return Home

After breakfast we transfer to the airport for our return home with new memories and First Lutheran friends! (B)

Optional not included in price:

  • Half-Day tour including Yankee Stadium and driving tour of Upper East Side: Oct. 22: $80 per person.

Travelers on this tour should be in reasonably good health. Certain components of this trip may not be able to accommodate those with special needs. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance to guests with walking, dining or other personal needs.
