A Honeymoon for Every Season

Weddings occur throughout the year, and so do honeymoons. While couples may have one set of factors to consider when deciding where to tie the knot, a different set comes into play for their honeymoon.

In a new survey, travel advisors from Travel Leaders Group who specialize in planning honeymoons name the best destinations throughout the year, taking into account weather, pricing and special events. Of course, no matter where you go or when, you’ll experience food, culture and romance.

In the spring, consider places like Greece and southern Italy. Temperatures will be warm but you’ll avoid the summertime heat, as well as the crowds, as you discover charming towns along Italy’s Amalfi Coast or marvel at Athens’ ancient monuments, like the Parthenon.

Argentina is another good option for a springtime honeymoon. In Buenos Aires, the capital, you’ll see the leaves change color in the beautiful parks, and you can take a leisurely stroll along the city’s majestic avenues. April is harvest time in Argentina’s vineyards, so take a side trip to the wine-growing region of Mendoza.

For couples with a safari on their bucket list, summer is the perfect time for a trip to Africa. In July, one of the biggest events in the natural world takes place — the migration of the wildebeest at Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The awe-inspiring display draws lots of wildlife, including lions, leopards and cheetahs.

Honeymooners who can’t decide between a beach vacation and exploring one of Europe’s great cities can do both in Spain in August. The island of Majorca offers plenty of sunshine and beaches. It’s only a 45-minute flight from Barcelona, so you can spend a few days exploring the city known for its art and architecture.

Couples can save money and beat the crowds with a fall trip to a popular European destination like Croatia. The country offers everything from beaches to open-air markets and castles. Be sure to spend time in the historic port city of Dubrovnik, one of the places where HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is filmed.

For a fall honeymoon closer to home, it’s a great season to visit San Francisco. Spend a few days in the City by the Bay and afterward, take a romantic road trip on Highway 1 along the coast for breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Or, spend some time in the wineries of Napa Valley.

Couples who don’t mind bundling up can enjoy the holiday cheer of a winter honeymoon in Scandinavia. Shop for gifts at Christmas markets in Stockholm or Copenhagen in December. In Finland, combine a few days in Helsinki with a trip to Lapland to see the reindeer and view the northern lights.

Winter is a prime time to visit the Caribbean. The weather is warm and there’s less rain. Top honeymoon destinations include St. Lucia, with its dramatic landscape of rainforests and waterfalls, as well as dreamy beaches and a variety of luxury accommodations.
